Fantastic conference in every respect. Many good talks and wonderful to see Terry looking so well and happy and full of life — still can’t believe he is 80! The arrangements were superb. The food was excellent and the banquet was truly something to remember, especially the real-time painting of Terry’s portrait with the amazing moment at the end when it was rotated through pi radians! Congratulations Samir, now you can take a break!

Samir, you are a genius. What a historical event, executed expertly! It will take a while for the memories to sink in, with so many little (and some big) surprises: the Borwein intro was a nice touch, the lunches kept conversations flowing as well as leaving stomachs and palates blissfully satisfied, the scientific talks were informative and consistently of the highest caliber, my accommodations were excellent, and of course Terry being Terry as only he can be – such an inspiration for us all, etc. etc. And on top of all that, I will have the beautiful painting (imo, a great piece of art) as a beautiful reminder of this event. Thank you so much, Samir. You have done a great service to the optimization community.

This was a most impressive meeting. Samir Adly and his staff certainly did a superb job of organizing it, and it was very nice to see the range of disciplines to which convex analysis has now become a necessary tool. It looked to me as though Terry and Judy were extremely pleased, as they surely should be.

As one of the youngest participants of Terryfest, I wanted to express huge thanks to Samir Adly, and other organizers and conference team for several reasons you may read some of them in the following.
1. It was the first international conference I was attending as a PhD student. Before the conference, there were so many names in books and papers. Now they are more than a single name, they are humans with figures, manners, etc. which may not know me, but I know them and can remember them.
Thanks for gathering so many names!
2. I have been in other conferences bigger than this with maybe 350 -400 participants. But that was about all fields of mathematics and there were more than 10 different lectures at the same time in different classes.
Seeing so many mathematicians and researchers (young and old) together which all focus on convex analysis (different aspects maybe), made me feel I’m not alone and the research path I choose is not inappropriate.
Thanks for giving me a big Mathematics’ family!
3. It is very hard for me to lose control while listening to a lecture which is not completely near to my area. In those times, seconds pass as slowly as an hour. Time management and coffee breaks and lunch time were so well-designed not to get bored.
Thanks for restricting the boredom!
4. I know the main reason of scientific gatherings is (or should be!) scientific, but it would be a pity not to have time to visit the city. The tour on Wednesday was a really good plan.
Thanks for combining pleasure and Math!
5. The social dinners are usually good places to talk more, more about non-scientific matters. But I was afraid that how should I spend 5 hours in that dinner time. When the program starts, your creative plans and ideas didn’t let me check my watch.
Thanks for being cool and a mathematician, at the same time!
6. I can guess in those long months of preparation you have been told it doesn’t worth it, it’s a waste of time, nobody will value the work, try not to do something special, or …

I have had the pleasure of attending an earlier birthday party in honor of Terry at the SPCOM 2015 Meeting in Adelaide. Meanwhile, Terry became of piece of art ! This was one of the best conferences I have been to in many years. The organization, the attendees and their talks, and the venue was absolutely superb! Samir and his team in the XLIM Laboratory at the University of Limoges did a fantastic job in putting together an outstanding scientific program as well as opportunities for us all to gather and exchange ideas on an informal basis. Samir was very warm and engaging making everyone feel so welcome. All of the special details and surprises of the conference made it a very delightful and memorable experience. From the inclusion of the daily menue in the program, the reception at the Hotel de Ville, the banquet with live music and painter, to the relaxed atmosphere and eminence of the speakers, it was amazing! Of course, we were also so please to be a part of this celebration of Terry Rockafellar on the occassion of his 80th birthday. Many thanks to Samir and the XLIM Lab!

It was an exceptional event. Mathematical community celebrated an outstanding mathematician – the patriarch of the Convex Analysis prof. Rockafellar. Deep respect for his mathematical genius and his warm human presence. Thanks to prof. Adly and all organizers who devoted a lot of time and effort to organize this celebration both as a scientific meeting at a very high level and as a friendly gathering of the close-knit family of renowned scientists and young researchers working in the field of Convex Analysis. Definitely, the meeting that made us best realize the scope of Variational Analysis. and its wide range of applications, as well as the role Terry Rockafellar has plaid to bring us there. The research of Samir Adly is, itself, a remarkable example of the intrinsic richness of the field. This is probably one of the reasons the meeting was so stimulating. The other is that the organizer demonstrated unusual talents in managing a meeting of this size, certainly identifying Limoges as a major “Variational Analysis” peak..
